Colossians 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Victory means success in a game, an election, or war (Advanced Oxford Learners Dictionary). Victory simply means to win, triumph, and overcome and conquer. This is what Jesus purchased for us in His redemptive program. The victory that Jesus won over the devil and all his cohorts, sickness, death, and poverty was not for Himself – He did it for you and me. His victory is our victory.
In Christ, we defeated the devil and all forms of wickedness and oppression – we are not trying to overcome satan – we have overcomed Him already in Christ. When Jesus hung on that cross, it was us hanging there because He was man’s representative. When He went to hell we went to hell; when He fought satan and his little demons we fought them. Actually, we’ve defeated the devil in Christ. Christ purchased the victory for us. Jesus has forever defeated the devil – this is one truth that has to stay with you.
The devil is no longer the strong man; he no longer possesses the power of death forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil (Hebrew 2:14). He is no more the prince of the world (cosmos); rather He is the god of the world’s system (aion). He has been completely paralyzed. It looks like most part of the church have not come alive with this truth; to them satan is strong and powerful – but that’s only a delusion sold to ignorant folks.
The devil himself knows and agrees that he has been defeated. Jesus is not seated in heaven trying to defeat the devil – He has defeated him already and abolished death and has brought life and immortality to light.
2 Timothy 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
Jesus is called the King of kings; and at the name of Jesus every knee bows in heaven, on earth and beneath the earth. He is currently seated in heaven waiting for His enemies to be made His footstool. Death has been defeated but waiting to be destroyed. All of these victories are what Jesus purchased for us. He fought to give us this victory – it wasn’t given to Him as an inheritance or gift. He fought for it. And when He was done, He handed over the victory and trophies to us to be decorated with them. In this rejoice and have your boast in the Lord.
