THE SOUL THAT SINS SHALL DIE

Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Depending on the lens that you put on, will determine what you see. If you don’t put on the right lens, your vision will not be clear and you will have distorted vision. It is the same with scripture interpretation; depending on what lens you are wearing, is what will determine what you see when you look into scripture.

Sin is punishable by God’s law. God is holy and righteous. In 1 John 1:9 we are told that He is “faithful” and “just”; these are judicial terms. God is righteous to punish every transgression and sin. No sin on the face of the earth will go unpunished. That’s for real; and the wages of sin is death. This is why even though God loved Adam whom He created in His image and likeness, when he sinned, God judged him and he died. Folks who think God will not send people to hell are living in dream land as a result of deception.

Our opening scripture is a valid truth. And you might probably have heard preachers preached from it several times. But what most preachers don’t do very much is to see that scripture through the lens of grace. And for that reason, they take scriptures like this and beat God’s people with it.

On the cross, God punished all sins and lawless deeds of the entire human race by unleashing His fiery wrath and indignation on Jesus. Every sin and curse fell on Jesus as He hanged on cross, being rejected by earth and heaven. God did punish sin till He was satisfied and not appeased. God did not overlook our sins and forgave us our sins. He legally punished all sins and transgression in the body of His beloved Son. The fire of God that fell on Jesus burnt Him; and the sweet aroma of the perfect lamb of God ascended to heaven and God was truly satisfied.

Now today, every sin has been legally punished. But anyone who does not accept this sacrifice by faith is headed for eternal damnation, for the soul that sins shall die. Rejecting the sacrifice of Jesus is the greatest sin in this world. However, anyone who believes the truth of what Jesus did on the cross and His redemptive program, he is instantly justified from all accusations. God declares those who believe in Jesus righteous and holy. And even if they sin, they are not going to pay for their sins because, all sins have been punished already. The only thing a believer suffers when he gets into the wrong lifestyle is the consequences of his actions; but his eternal security is still intact. Praise God!
