Psalm 63:1, 2, 8 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; 2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. 8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
You must have a strong burning desire for the things of God; a desire that burns till it consumes you. It is like fire in your bones. This is the type of drive you need to do extreme and special things for God. If you want the life out of the ordinary, your desire and passion must be strong. It has to be an unwavering hunger for God.
I believe Psalm 63 was written while Saul was pursuing David. The picture it creates for us is that of a man who once had access to the glory but due to where he was, he was unable to have access to the presence of God. David longed for the power of God just like he had seen in the sanctuary. Today in the New Testament, we have the presence of God with us forever; it is no longer a matter of distance.
However, what that scripture shows us is a man who was hungry for the presence of God. How hungry are you for the presence of God? How hungry are you to see the glory of God manifest in your life and the church? Several years ago, this hunger drove us to long prayers and fasting and studying of the word of God. We spent nights praying and crying out to God to see the manifestation of His power in our lives. We desired to see our world changed for the better.
Psalm 42:1-2 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
In Psalm 42, the psalmist expressed his hunger and thirst for God like the hart pants after the waters. I understand harts love water. And when it is being hunted by a predator, he seeks for water. It will run for miles till it gets to a river or stream. Then it will jump into the river for cover. This is the way we are supposed to be hungry for the presence of God.
We have to hunger for the word of God. How much do you hunger for the word? How much do you value and treasure the word of God? How much you desire the things of God speaks volumes about your spiritual condition. Today, we live in a world that can easily choke the word in your life and snuff out the light of God’s word in your life. My prayer for you is that, God will create in you a desire for His word and power; that God will light a fire in your heart that will burn forever.
