Psalms 141:3 Set a watch, O Lord , before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

In our opening scripture, the Psalmist prayed one of the most important prayers in scripture. Unfortunately, many of us don’t pray or probably have never prayed this prayer in our entire life. I believe it is one prayer you have to pray on a daily basis. I love this prayer: Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. What the Psalmist is saying is, Lord, help me watch over my mouth like a guard will protect a house or a property. Your life is a treasured property; protect it by saying the right things consistent with redemptive provisions in Christ Jesus.

In the natural, if you have a property and you don’t set a guard over it, the chances are, there will be a lot of trespassing on that property. Setting a guard over that property wards off all intruders and unscrupulous folks from causing damage to your property. In the same manner, if you don’t learn to bridle your tongue well, you have set your life lose to all forms of satanic invasions.

The place of your mouth with regards to your life is so vital. Your life goes in the direction of your words. Your mouth is the steering wheel that controls your life. If you cannot keep your mouth, you cannot keep your life.

Proverbs 13:3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

Your mouth is your life. Your mouth has power to make or mar you. Stop talking things that are not consistent with the word of God. Stop saying things like, the economy is hard; I am broke; my sickness has come again; I don’t think I can make it. The list is endless. These are words of negations that frustrates your cause in life and move your life down the drain.

In setting a watch over your mouth, learn to think before you speak; enrich your life with the word of God for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. I think one main reason why folks talk wrongly is that, they have not been taught properly. There are certain words that just can’t come out of my mouth. I have conditioned my life with the word of God. Set a watch over your mouth and save your life.
