2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Most believers in Christ knows this scripture very well; and some even use it to beat people. There is a reason why God tells us not to indulge in the wrong way of life. And if you are ignorant of God’s word, you will struggle to live holy and righteous.

In the New Testament, right living is a fruit and not the root; while righteousness, which is a gift from God, is the root. One key to living holy is “knowing who you are in Christ”. If you don’t know who you are in Christ, you will struggle to live right. There is a striking phrase in our opening scripture:

And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

The key here is in knowing that the name of Christ is upon you. Hallelujah! You are not supposed to do dumb stuff because you bear the name of Jesus Christ. His name is upon you. This means that you are His representative on earth; He has conferred on you His authority, rights and privileges.

Thus when you live the wrong life, you are bringing shame on the name of Christ. The real issue here is the name of Jesus and not you. God is more concerned about the name of His beloved Son.

How will you feel if you saw the president of your country throwing punches and fighting on the street? How will you feel if an ambassador of your country is found drunk, lying on the streets in a foreign country? I hope by now you are getting the message. I know your reaction to these questions will be a shocking look on your face.

The reason is that, you do not expect these people per their rank in society, to behave the way they did. Your concern is more on their position than what they did. As a new creation in Christ Jesus, you have a greater position than all of these people because, you bear the highest name and authority in all of the universe.

You are not here by yourself. You represent a higher authority who does not want His name to be dragged into the mud. Next time you are tempted to do something wrong, think about the name of Jesus. Ask yourself, what will this action of mine do to the name of Jesus? If this becomes your consciousness, rather than condemnation, you will live right effortlessly.

I have come to a place in Christ that I cannot even think of doing some dumb stuff let alone doing them. I think higher. I am not ordinary. I belong to a higher class of beings. I am in God’s class, seated with Christ in the heavenly places. Let Christ fill your consciousness and you will live right effortlessly.
