Sunday, 6th September 2020
Pastor Victor

2 Timothy 4:11 Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.

Are you profitable to your church? Are you profitable to the ministry of your pastor? You must sit down and ask yourself this sincere question. Can what was said in the opening scripture be said concerning you? Are you just in church, warming the pews and making the statistics of people who attend church.

I know you are faithful in church attendance. But are you profitable in the ministry where you belong? Can your pastor say that you are profitable to him in the ministry? No one can answer this question for you but yourself. And if you cannot answer yes to this question, then there is a big problem. This is because God wants every one of His children to be profitable to the kingdom.

The word “profitable” is from the Greek word “euchrēstos” which according to Thayer means easy to make use of, useful. Strong a also defines it as easily used, that is, useful: - profitable, meet for use.

To be profitable means to bring profits to the ministry; it means your inputs are helping in the growth and advancement of the kingdom of God. It means you are committed to the cause of the ministry where you belong. It means you winning souls, discipling the believers, helping new members settle in the church, helping new converts get grounded in the revelation of God’s word, giving to the spread of the gospel of Christ etc.

Apostle Paul said concerning Mark in our opening scripture that he is profitable to him in ministry. You know this same Mark was rejected by Apostle Paul one time because he did some mistake. But later, this same fellow has grown and has become fruitful and profitable in ministry to the apostle.

As pastors and leaders, we should learn to be patient with people. People are developing at different stages in their lives. When they make mistakes, we shouldn’t damn them. But help them to recover and make the necessary adjustment for upward movement. Sometimes the people who have become profitable in ministry, once upon a time were failures. We have to learn this golden nugget of leadership.
