Psalms 37:4 Enjoy the LORD , and he will give what your heart asks. CEB
I love the CEB translation for the opening scripture. It says, enjoy the Lord, and He will give what your heart asks. The kingdom life is about enjoying life in Christ. God does not want us to delight in the things of the world; rather He wants us to delight ourselves in the Lord. It implies that God wants you to delight in prayer; delight in the word of God; delight in going to church; delight in evangelism and touching lives; delight in cheerful and generous giving.
Mary so delighted in sitting at the feet of Jesus; and the Lord Jesus commended her for choosing that virtue.
Luke 10:41-42 The Master said, “Martha, dear Martha, you’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing. One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—it’s the main course, and won’t be taken from her.” MSG
Mary and Martha are clear examples of folks in the church: those who value and cherish spiritual things and those who delight in trivial or trifling matters. One time Jesus visited this two sisters. Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, hearing His lovely words. Martha on the other hand, was busy with kitchen work, trying to fix the Master some food. Later, she complained to Jesus to ask Mary to come help her in the kitchen. And Jesus told her, Martha you are troubled about many things; but one thing us needful, and Mary has chosen that good part.
Martha is like so many folks in the church; they are troubled about many things, which in essence are trivial and unimportant. And the reason they are troubled about many things is that, they don’t do the one thing that is essential, sitting at the feet of Jesus and hearing His word. Martha even began to blame Jesus for allowing Mary to sit down hearing His word. Is it not amazing some folks see it as a waste of time for attending every church service? You have to so treasure the presence of Jesus. When you do, every other good thing will start pulling to your direction.
The smartest guys in the kingdom are the ones who spend time with the Lord in prayer and the word, fellowshipping with the Lord. Wise men still seek Jesus. I believe those who have made church attendance their priority are the wisest in the kingdom of God. Going to church is not waste of time. The church is where you are trained for reigning. And because Mary placed such high value on the Masters words, she was one of those who anointed Jesus in preparation for His burial. When the other women got to the tomb, they were too late, it was resurrection morning. She ended up at the right place at the right time.
Some think by rushing to work early every morning, without their personal devotion, it will make them more effective. Far from it. Of course you don’t have to be late to work; but at the same time, don’t sacrifice your personal time with the Lord for anything. If you are not fellowshipping with the Lord through prayer and the word, you are not in touch. And if you are not in touch, you cannot touch lives.
Isaiah 58:14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord ; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
