Psalms 130:3‭-‬4 If thou, Lord , shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.‬

God is a God of mercy and grace; that’s His true nature. Of course God is a God of justice. But God truly delights in mercy and grace. If you want to touch the heart of God, go after His love, mercy and grace. The word “mark” in our opening scripture is from the Hebrew word “shamar” which means to keep in memory, to observe narrowly etc.

The NIV translation puts it in a better way: If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you (Psalm 130:3‭-‬4). This scripture destroys all forms of self righteousness; if you think God accepts you because you have lived holy, you need to take good look at the scripture again. What the scripture is saying is that, if God were to mark your sins, you cannot survive His judgment. Stop trusting in your good works and put your trust in His grace and mercy.

Here the Holy Ghost gives us the key to true worship and the fear of the Lord. This scripture implies that God forgives us so that we will serve Him with godly reverence. Thus the more we preach the forgiveness of sins, the more people will worship God acceptably.

God is not holding a register in heaven marking every sin of yours; He does not keep a record of your sins. Your sins have been forgiven and remitted by the blood of Jesus. This is what you need to believe. You need to focus more on God’s forgiveness than your sins. The more conscious you are of God’s forgiveness, the more you will fear Him and worship Him.

Don’t believe religion. Follow what the Bible is saying. May be you didn’t get the opening scripture well. Look at it from the Message translation: If you, God, kept records on wrongdoings, who would stand a chance? As it turns out, forgiveness is your habit, and that’s why you’re worshiped (Psalm 130:3‭-‬4). True worship comes from knowing God as a merciful and gracious God. ‬
