Matthew 7:7-8 Ask, and it shall be given you; ....... For every one that asketh receiveth;..........
Firstly, asking shows that you are humble. Proud people do not ask for help even if they need it. They are too proud to ask any one for help. For instance, if you approach your classmate to help you with some Math problem, it shows you are humble and willing to be taught. God delights when we ask Him for things. Don’t let religious folks tell you that don’t spend too much time asking God for things. God delights in we asking Him for things; it shows that we depend only on Him for our needs.
James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” It will take humility for a man to go to a man of God and ask for prayer for his healing. Most rich people won’t go to church for payer when they’re sick. They will rather resort to the best doctors in the world. Some even in their dying state will still not ask for prayer.
Secondly, it is only those who ask that receives. Receiving is for those who ask. Someone will say, if God is all knowing, why should we ask Him for anything, after all He knows our needs? My dear friend, God is a faith God. And He wants us to approach Him in faith, bringing our needs before Him.
While Jesus walked on earth, He ministered to so many people. One time a blind man came to Him for healing. Then he asked, what do you want me to do for you? Someone may ask, can’t He see that the man is blind? Yeah, He saw that the man was blind. But He needed to hear from him what he wanted; that’s the law of the spirit. And when he did, He healed him.
Thirdly, asking shows that you have faith in God. You will not go to someone to ask him for anything if you know that the person cannot help you. No one will go to someone sleeping on the streets to ask him for a million dollar. People size you before asking you for anything. In the same way, our asking of God reveals that we have faith in Him. When you don’t ask God for some big things, it is proof positive that you are not walking in faith.
