1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
The cardinal reason for the preaching of the word of God is that you might “believe”. This is vital and you have to get it right. Preaching is not for religious purposes; preaching of the word is designed to generate faith for exploits – this is the most important reason for the preaching of the word. Preaching of the word is the “faith generator”.
Faith is what pleases God (Hebrews 11:6). And this faith can only be generated by the preaching of God’s word. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Take a good look at the preceding verses before the aforementioned scripture:
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? (Romans 10:13-14)
This scripture implies that one is saved (made righteous, healed, delivered) by calling upon the name of the Lord Jesus. But they can only call on Him if they believe. And they can only believe if they hear. And they can only hear if there is a preacher. So, when you hear the word, you believe, then you are empowered to call upon the Lord in prayer and then you will saved, healed and delivered.
We have to take the preaching of the word more seriously than ever before. Something remarkable happened while Peter preached the word to the house of Cornelius. Cornelius was a devout man but he wasn’t born again. While Peter preached, the Holy Ghost fell on all who heard the message. The word that Peter preached brought faith into the hearers and the power of God struck from heaven and they were saved and filled with the Spirit.
While Paul preached at Lystra, there sat a man, impotent in his feet. The man listened attentively till Paul perceived faith in him. Upon that, he told the man, stand up on your feet. And the man leaped and walked. John 20:30-31 says, “And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might “believe” that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.”There is power in preaching the word of God. Praise God!
