DON'T GET OFFENDED BY THE WORD
DON'T GET OFFENDED BY THE WORD

Pastor Victor
Matthew 11:6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
John the Baptist got offended by Jesus and lost his head. There was no where written in scripture that was prophesied that John would die by being beheaded. But when he was in prison and heard the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples to go and ask Christ if He was “the one to come”. John himself had already testified that Jesus was the Christ. Now here he was doubting what has already being revealed to him.
While John was in prison, I believe he had thought that Christ would have come and delivered him from prison. And when that didn’t happen, even though it has been revealed to him that Jesus was the Christ, and he had heard the works of Christ, he still doubted – he was offended by Jesus.
If the word you are hearing hits you hard, don’t get offended. Remember Christ is the Rock of Offense or “Rock of Stumbling”. If you are offended by the word, just know that you have encountered the Rock of Offense.
There are even some people who left church because the pastor’s message seemed offensive to them. None of us is greater than the word of God. We all need to submit to the Lordship of the word of God irrespective of who we are and what we believe. The word must reign supreme and have the pre-eminence in our lives.
To be offended by the word is not submitting to the Lordship of the word. People get offended when the word go against their theology or way of life.
When Stephen preached the word, the people were offended and stoned him to death. Jesus’ message offended the religious people of His day. They couldn’t stand the message that Jesus preached. And for that reason, they sought means by which they would kill Him.
Pastor, even Jesus offended people when He preached – you are not greater than Jesus. If you preach the true word of God someone will be offended. Don’t be bothered – it is part of the preaching of the gospel of Christ. Don’t be a man pleaser – man did not call you – neither are you sent by man to preach man’s message. God sent you – preach His word only.
