UNDERSTAND THE SUBJECT OF GIVING

Proverbs 16:22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
You will have to understand why you are giving. You must get to know the purpose of giving and how it can be done effectively. Giving is done effectively when you understand the subject. And to understand a subject, you will have to do it intentionally. Understanding don’t just come to you; you have to seek for it.
And understanding comes when you study. Daniel understood by studies. As he studied the prophetic writings of the prophet Jeremiah, he gained understanding. While he studied, he realised that Judah was supposed to be in captivity for 70 years.
Daniel 9:2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
And what was the result when Daniel received understanding through study of prophetic writings? The answer is found in the verse 3 of Daniel 9: And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes. When Daniel gained an understanding of the seasons and times, he prayed and God brought deliverance to Israel – then they left the captivity of Babylon.
If you really want to understand the subject of giving to enable you to give effectively, then go get tapes and books on giving; then together with your Bible, sit down and study it. You will definitely come out with a revelation and an understanding.
If you don’t understand giving, you may as well just be throwing money away. Not every giving in the house of God results in increase. There are certain giving that are not recognised by God. Hence such giving don’t yield any returns. God does not want you to waste your money. He wants your giving to produce results. Thus He counsels us to study to show ourselves approved unto Him.
