DISCERN THE LORD'S BODY
DISCERN THE LORD'S BODY

1 Corinthians 11:29-30 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
The theme scripture talks about Christ’s body in the light of the Lord’s supper. But Christ’s body also means the church. And unfortunately many don’t discern the body of Christ. What do I mean? According to our opening scripture, those who do not discern (make a difference) or judge rightly the Lord’s body, end up getting weak, sick and die. This is serious!
You must be careful what you speak against the church which is Christ’s body. A lot of Christians talk any how against the church. They speak against the pastor anyhow; they curse the pastor in their hearts; they malign men of God. Some even want to correct men of God – you are wrong; and you need to truly repent; you are treading on dangerous grounds.
Jesus will not take it lightly to any man who mistreats His body. This is why as a pastor I never stand on the pulpit to curse members. I only bless them and speak words of edification and encouragement to them. You don’t have to insult God’s people and demean them. There is a place for correction. But don’t rail curses and insults on someone simply because you think something is wrong with them.
Christ’s body which is the church is holy, irrespective what you may think. Your opinion doesn’t change that. The more you bless the church, the more blessed you become. On the other hand, if you pitch your tent against the church, you will surely go down.
Say the right things concerning your pastor and church. Bless men of God with your mouth. Even if they are wrong, you don’t have what it takes to correct them. Jesus who called them knows how to handle them. Be humble in your walk with the Lord so that He will exalt you in due time.
A lot of the troubles some Christians are suffering is not the devil; it is this issue of not discerning the Lord’s body. I’ve seen and heard members challenging their pastors. This kind of people will die for nothing; they will become open prey for the devil. Don’t join the gossip group in your church to malign members and leaders and pastors.
God is against any man who speaks against His church. And God will continue to resist such a fellow irrespective of who he is, whether a believer or non-believer. We need some godly fear in the church. Take heed to what you do to the church henceforth.
