Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
The mother of wealth is wisdom. And the fear of the Lord is the principal dimension of wisdom. So, if you desire wealth, then the key is the fear of the Lord. You must walk in the fear of the Lord. To fear God means to have godly reverence for the Lord. It does not mean to be afraid of God; but it does mean to have godly fear and reverence.
The word “beginning” in the scripture above doesn’t mean the start of something per se. But it means chief, principal, first in rank, place and time. It speaks of the highest. So, what the scriptures is saying is that the chief or most important dimension of wisdom is “the fear of the Lord”. Hence if you are walking in the fear of the Lord, you are walking on the highest plane of wisdom.
The fear of God will keep you from evil. It will keep you from being destroyed by prosperity. In scripture, we see a very disturbing phenomenon where people fell when they became prosperous. The prosperity of fools shall destroy them. That’s why God wants us to have godly reverence so that the financial increase we enjoy doesn’t end up destroying us.
King Solomon was the richest man that ever lived. But because he lost his godly reverence for God, he ended up on the wrong side of life; he started building temples for devils and his heart departed from the Lord. He lost the reverential fear of the Lord that he had.
Wisdom has two hands; the right hand and the left hand. The right hand is for length of days while the left hand is for riches and honour. Proverbs 3:13,16 says, “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.”
Solomon forsook the right hand of wisdom even though he had the left hand. This is what led to his fall. Friend, God wants you to enjoy the prosperity He blesses you with. He does not want the prosperity to destroy you. That’s why He counsels you to get the fear of the Lord. When king Uzziah became very prosperous, he was lifted up in pride and tried to function in the priestly office, of which he did not have the anointing for it. He turned leprous and died a leper. Let God’s fear fill your heart today!
