Luke 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
When Jesus prayed, there was power to face the sufferings that lay ahead of Him. Remember Jesus lived as a man. Thus He needed strength to face what was ahead of Him. And He got that strength from prayer. After He had prayed earnestly in the garden of Gethsemane, He was energized to face the future. And He did face it with great confidence and won the victory.
This is the kind of strengthening the apostle Paul spoke of in Ephesians 3:16: That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; (Ephesians 3:16). This means to be strengthened with miraculous power or dynamic ability for exploits. This kind of strengthening is what drives your fears away and kicks out your doubts and unbelief.
There is no way we can face the future ahead of us and win the battles of life without effective, earnest, heartfelt, and fervent prayer. This is the kind of prayer that Jesus prayed in that garden before His arrest. And He was able to face the cross that He had dreaded.
One of the main benefits of prayer, aside getting the answers we pray for, is strengthening. Prayer strengthens the man who prays. Anytime you spend a good amount of time praying, you are energised on the inside.
Don’t neglect your prayer closet. Make prayer your daily habit. Life is not getting softer nor easier by the day. We will require some level of divine enabling to face the future with great confidence. And prayer offers us that strength. Cultivate the habit of praying daily. This is something no one can do for you; you will have to do it for yourself. Receive grace to maintain the daily discipline of prayer for victorious living in Christ Jesus.
