SIN HAS BEEN DEFEATED

Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
I tell people all the time that sin is not the believer’s problem. And any time I make this kind of statement, I could see shock written all over people’s faces. Many still don’t get this simple truth I have been trying to share over the years. If you don’t know in truth that sin is not the problem of the believer in Christ, your struggle with sin continues.
Our opening scripture is crystal clear on the destiny of sin. Sin has two sides: it is first a nature then an act. We inherited our sinful nature from Adam. When Adam sinned against God in the garden, he passed on to all men the sin nature which is the nature of the devil. Scripture calls it the “the spirit that works in the children of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2). And both the sin nature and the sinful act were all defeated by Christ on the cross. He nailed it to the cross forever.
When you got born again, you received a new nature. What happened was that when Christ died on the cross, we died with Him because He was our representative. Hence our sinful nature died. When Christ rose from the dead, we were raised together with Him with a new nature that is completely dead to sin and forever alive to righteousness. This is the true gospel. Now your new nature cannot respond to sin for it cannot sin because of the seed (life) of God in you.
Why are a lot of believers struggling with sin that has been defeated? The answer is ignorance of the gospel. One preacher said, every man’s mountain is his ignorance. Ignorance of the truth of God’s word is our biggest problem. Our problem is not sin. From the day you begin to know in truth that sin has been defeated, sin loses its power over you.
Scripture says, when we are under grace sin shall no longer Lord it over us (Romans 6:14). The key is bringing all men under the knowledge of grace and not the law and legalism for the strength of sin is the law (1 Corinthians 15:56). You have to renew your mind with God’s word daily. And also, avoid watching and listening to the wrong stuff. These are entry points into your life that the devil uses to wreck havoc. The believer who has been involved in watching the wrong movies and pornographic materials will certainly fall into sexual immorality. Fill your mind with the knowledge of the grace of God and you will reign over sin.
