THE PRAYING PASTOR

One of the things that I am very grateful to God for is that, I grew up as a young Christian under a praying Pastor. Our church was not the most fancy in town with all the equipment and modern technology; our pastor was not the flamboyant type. But one thing was certain about our Pastor, He was a praying man, full of power. He was a man who believed in miracles.

As a result of this pastor’s praying life and believing in the miraculous and casting out of devils, we were all caught up in this power dimension of the Christian faith. There were times this pastor will take us out on night expeditions in the town, while we observe prayer walks, including invading and terrorizing shrines.

Even though the pastor was later transferred, the seed of prayer and power has already been sown in us. We continued in that same fire, praying, casting out devils and holding crusades as young fellows. Today, as I write, many of those young folks who were in the church are all pastors in ministry. Many of the things that I am doing today came from that encounter with my pastor, back in the day.

As the pastor is, so are the members. If the pastor prays, the members will pray – that is the way it works. If your pastor is not a praying pastor you are in trouble because, you are under a shepherd who is powerless and blind. The resulting effect is that satan will have a field day and a free shot at the church. If your watchman is a sleeping one, thieves can invade the house at any time.

In the days that we live in, it is dangerous to be in a church where they don’t pray, where the pastor does not believe in prayer, fasting, the supernatural and miracles. If you are a pastor, I counsel you to take prayer and power dimension of ministry seriously.

Many of the oppressions we see in the church today is as a result of prayerless pastors, who don’t believe in the miraculous. May the Lord Jesus Himself who demonstrated to us power in ministry give us shepherds that pray. Jesus prayed and did miracles; you cannot do less.
