PREPARING FOR THE YEAR BY PRAYER AND FASTING

Acts 13:2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. KJV
Every good student knows very well that preparation is important for every exam. No matter how good a student is, if he prepares poorly for an exam he will fail. Good preparation births good performance.
In the same vein, if you don’t prepare well for this year, chances are you may fail. And the place of fasting and prayers in preparing for every given year is crucial. I believe prayer should precede everything we do in life. If you want life to be easy for you, pray more.
The fasting and prayers that churches around the world engaged in for the beginning of each year is not a religious thing – this is serious business. It is the kingdom way to open the year and sow the right seeds of prayers into the year.
Every given year is neutral. It is what you put into the year that will determine what you get. And in prayer, we make demands in the name of Jesus about what we want, and not just sit down for anything to be handed over to us.
Don’t take the fasting and prayer lightly. During this period we dismantle every counsel of darkness planted into the year; we are also positioned to hear from God and receive specific instructions for our lives, as our antenna are sharpened.
While the early church fasted and ministered to the Lord according to our opening scripture, God spoke from heaven and gave them specific directions about their ministry. If you do what they did, you will not grope through the year in darkness, trying to figure out what life has to offer. Make time to diligently fast and pray. The benefits are enormous. And the blessing about this January fast is that, it is the “First fruit” month of the year. What happens to the first determines what happens to the rest.
