REST IS HOLY TO THE LORD

Genesis 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

The first time the word holy was mentioned in the Bible it was associated with rest. The Bible declares that God rested from His works and rested on the seventh day and sanctified it (made it holy). God rested not because He was tired but because there was nothing more to be done for the work was thoroughly finished. God made holy the seventh day which is the rest day, holy. This implies that rest is holy to God.

In Bible study, there is a law called "the first principle of mention". It has to do with the first time a subject was mentioned in the Bible. And the first time the word “holy” was mentioned in the Bible it was in connection with rest. This implies that rest is priority to God.

1 Corinthians 1:29-31 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

When we trust alone in the finished work of Christ, we are resting. His righteousness has now become our righteousness; His wisdom and power is now ours. His faith and love is now ours. When we believe and accept all that He has given us, we are indeed resting. God loves it when we rest in Christ. The work is finished concerning our health, salvation, joy and abundance. What we need to do is to start believing it and acting on it. This is holy to God.

Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

We have to labor to enter into this rest by faith. And when we rest, God works. Rest is holy to God.
