Matthew 25:3-4 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
In Mathew 25:1-12 the story is told of ten virgins who went out to meet the bridegroom. Of the ten, five were foolish and the other five were wise. The wise virgins took extra oil in their vessels while the foolish ones took nothing. When the bridegroom came, they all woke up and trim their lamps; but the lamps of the foolish virgins had gone out. And because they had no extra oil, they couldn’t go out to meet the bridegroom.
They asked the wise virgins to give them of their oil, but they answered them no, that they should go and buy for themselves. They went out to buy some oil from those who sold. But by the time they returned, it was too late; the bridegroom had shut the door. They missed the opportunity they’ve been waiting for all day and night.
This is the revelation: the women were all virgins; a picture of our new birth in Christ. But five were wise while the other five were fools. What made the difference was wisdom. Wisdom gave the five virgins foresight hence the advantage. They foresaw that the bridegroom could delay hence they took extra oil. The other foolish virgins did not anticipate that the bridegroom could tarry long in coming. Foresight is the ability to see something beforehand; and it is vital in our walk with God. If you do not have foresight, you could be crushed in life.
Proverbs 22:3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
A prudent man is a wise man. Embrace the wisdom of God to give you the advantage. It is not just enough to be born again; the wisdom of God must be working in you in a great way in order to walk in higher dimensions. Today, in the church, most believers are being crushed for the lack of operational wisdom. When you have foresight, you start planning for the future. Noah did not build the ark in the midst of the rain; that will amount to nothing. He rather built the ark against the rain. Hence when the rain came, he was secured and safe.
Foresight will keep you safe when others are drowning. God is looking for leaders who can see ahead and take his people into that future. Without foresight, our future is bleak; we will be fighting blindly – we are doomed. Christ has been made wisdom unto us; wisdom is available to us. Let us take advantage of that wisdom and prosper with it. Foresight is vision; and where there is no vision the people perish (Proverbs 29:18). We need to really open our eyes and look into the future and plan and prepare for it. Ten years from now, what do you hope to see? And how are you planning to get there? With that foresight, we will be able to approach it with confidence. God does not want us to wallow in foolishness; foolishness kills; wisdom preserves.
