Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. KJV
Faith comes by hearing God’s word according to Romans 10:17; faith comes as a result of what God has said to you. Thus until you hear from God, either through the scriptures or the voice of the Spirit, there is no faith. Anything outside this is assumption or delusion.
Abraham had faith because God spoke to him. In his day, Abraham didn’t have the scriptures; this is a vital truth that you don’t have to skip – meditate on it deeply. Abraham’s faith came from what he heard from God. So, faith doesn’t only come through the scriptures but also the voice of the Spirit.
The faith that comes from the voice of the Spirit is what births “spirit of faith” (2 Corinthians 4:13). While the faith that comes from the scriptures is called “the word of faith”. Abraham was a man who acted by the spirit of faith. He acted on what God spoke to him. And all through, his journey of life was punctuated with directions from God. His circumcision was an act of faith; he heard God and acted. When he put his beloved son Isaac on the altar as a sacrifice, it was because he heard from God.
Your journey and pilgrimage on earth must be occasioned by faith. Sometimes you just have to act on His word even if you don’t have full details. Faith is what pleases God. Sometimes what God may ask you to do may look stupid in the eyes of men; but just act on it – it is the wisdom of God to set you on high.
In your walk with God, you will require both the word of faith and the spirit of faith. As you study the scriptures, faith will come to you. As you pray more and spend time with the Holy Spirit, the voice of the Spirit will come clearer to you to stir up the spirit of faith.
