Proverbs 21.20 The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets. TLB
Famines and rainy days are part of the seasons of life. But if you are wise, you will smile at them. The wise man always live with the future in mind. Do you have a reserve where you can fall on in times of great need? Or are you just spending everything that comes into your hand?
Genesis 41:33-34 Therefore, Pharaoh should find an intelligent and wise man and put him in charge of the entire land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh should appoint supervisors over the land and let them collect one-fifth of all the crops during the seven good years.NLT
Joseph gave king Pharaoh wisdom on how to prepare for the days of famine. They saved 20% of the increase of the land during the times of abundance. Remember they did not just sit down and said, by faith God will take care of us no matter what happens. Unfortunately, this is the attitude of a lot of Christians.
On the contrary, Pharaoh and his folks, by the wisdom of Joseph, prepared for the days of famine; they saved 20% of the increase of the land. And it was more than enough to preserve them for the days of famine that ravaged many nations. While other nations were in trouble, Egypt were smiling. And it was that time they made a great fortune by selling the grain they have stored.
We should not live our lives as if there is no tomorrow. Live with tomorrow in mind. Don’t tell yourself: I am too young; let me enjoy life now so that when I am old I will begin to prepare for the future; that is foolishness gone to sea. God counsels us to go to the ant and learn wisdom:
Proverbs 6:6-8 Take a lesson from the ants, you lazy fellow. Learn from their ways and be wise! For though they have no king to make them work, yet they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.
Many were taken by surprise by this pandemic. A lot of folks suffered especially during the lockdowns. But the truth is that some folks were not affected at all; these are folks with some reserves.
We are God's children; and Christ has been made wisdom unto us. We can not continue to walk in ignorance and expect all to be well. If we don’t act wisely, we will greatly suffer. Foolishness begets trouble. While you work, create a separate account just to save. And this savings is not supposed to be touched; this is for the future. And this kind of savings should be used later for an investment that will produce more money.
My prayer for you is that God will fill you with His wisdom to deal wisely in the affairs of life.
