DON'T MAKE DECISIONS IN THE NIGHT

1 Kings 3:21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I did bear. KJV
Our opening scripture is the story about two prostitutes who had children each. On a certain night, one of them slept on her child and the child died. In the middle of the night, she exchanged her dead child with the other child belonging to the other woman.
Now, when the rightful owner of the living child woke up to breastfeed her child, she found that the baby was dead. In the morning when there was light, she discerned that the dead baby wasn’t hers. Notice it was until light came that she could discern that the dead child wasn’t hers.
Another story is told in Genesis 29:25 of how Leah was smuggled into Jacob’s tent. Jacob had laboured for seven years for Rachel. But on the night of the wedding, Laban deceitfully smuggled Leah into Jacob’s tent. When morning came, behold, it was Leah. Jacob realised that he has been deceived. Jacob married in darkness.
These two scenarios are akin to the way many folks live their lives today. We make sensitive decisions without light. A lot of folks got married before they knew that they had married the wrong person; many journeyed to places before they realised that they had no business being there; many chose certain professions without light.
The wisdom the Spirit of God is giving us here is that, never embark on any decision without light. Light speaks of revelation. Job 29:3 says, “When his candle shined upon my head, And when by his light I walked through darkness.” Learn how to pray the prayer of enquiry on any decision you want to make.
The Holy Spirit is here to guide you into all truth concerning every area of your life. If you yield to His guidance, you will win for by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: And in multitude of counsellors there is safety (Proverbs 24:6). If you make decisions in the night (without light), you will live to regret it.
