Ruth 1:18 When she saw that she was stedfastly minded to go with her, then she left speaking unto her.

The story of the book of Ruth is a short one but so full of golden nuggets of truth. From our opening scripture, we see someone making a bold statement with lots of confidence. A lot has happened prior to this time. A man named Elimelech from the tribe of Judah left Bethlehem (house of bread) for the land of Moab due to famine. In a process of time he died; and later on his sons Mahlon and Chilion died also.

The only surviving member as at this time was the wife, Naomi. The implication of all this is that Naomi had lost everything. Upon hearing that God has visited His people in giving them bread, she decided to return home. Her two daughters in law, Ruth and Orpah decided to return with her.

Naomi knowing that there was nothing she could give to these poor widows insisted they stay in their homeland. They all pressed to go with her but she told them to go back. The Bible tells us that Orpah kissed her mother in law but Ruth clave unto her. These are her words:

Ruth 1:16-17 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: 17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.

These are tough words from a determined woman who nothing was going to stop her from achieving her destiny. When Naomi saw the steadfastness of Ruth, she stopped urging her to return. The rest is history. Ruth later got married to one of the richest men in Bethlehem, and she later became an ancestor of Jesus even though she was a foreigner. What a story!

In pursuit of your dreams and aspirations, one key element that will help you to achieve your dreams is “steadfast mindedness”. A steadfast mind is a mind that is made up and it is not ready to retreat for any reason. It is an unwavering mental disposition of an individual. You need this element to achieve your dreams. Due to the lack of this ingredient, many folks have given up on their dreams; and once upon a time great and lofty dreams have been buried in the sands of time.

It is not enough to have a great dream; you must be steadfastly minded; you have to be unwavering irrespective of the oppositions that might come your way. The truth is that satan will not sit down and watch you achieve your dreams. The devil will come against you with all kinds of distractions and discouragements.

You will have all kinds of people giving you dozens of reasons why your dream is unrealistic and beyond reach. On the way to the cross to redeem the whole world, Jesus had to fight distractions. Peter told Him His dream was unrealistic. But Jesus kept His focus and was unmovable and unwavering.

If you believe this is the plan of God for your life, don’t let anything stop you. Be steadfastly minded. Have a strong mental attitude through constant meditation on the word and your dreams. Stay focused. Avoid those who distract you. Surround yourself with like minded people and chase your dream; and nothing will be impossible to you. Praise God!
