Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
The whole book of Galatians is about the comparison of law and grace; New Testament and Old Testament; sonship and slavery. If you don’t read this book with this understanding, you will miss God’s golden message in this wonderful epistle.
God’s purpose for redemption was to bring us to the place of sonship. I know that folks do use Galatians 4:1-4 to teach about babes in Christ not being able to inherit all of God’s promises; that we have to come to a place of maturity before we can fully take control of God’s possession for us in Christ.
There is nothing really wrong with this school of thought but the premise for the argument, using Galatians 4:1-4 is inappropriate. Before Christ came, Israel was under the law which implies that they were children thus slaves; and scripture says that the law genders bondage. That means as long as Israel was under the law they were slaves in bondage.
But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His Son to redeem them that were under the law. For what purpose? That we might receive the adoption of sons; to bring us to full sonship. Thus the law has never been God’s perfect plan; it was just part of the process. But God’s ultimate aim was to bring forth sons who have His life and nature with full rights.
Sonship is the pinnacle of God’s plan of redemption. It is only sons who have full access to their father’s wealth; slaves don’t have access to their master’s wealth. And since the law produced slaves, God brought in a better covenant to produce sons who have full rights.
Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
If you are born again you are God’s son with full rights and privileges. Don’t live like a slave. Don’t live in fear of God’s judgment for he that fears is not made perfect in love; don’t live beneath your privileges. Embrace the Father’s love. Enjoy His provisions in Christ. Health is yours; prosperity is yours. You are beyond the curse. You are blessed beyond measure. Hallelujah!
