SOMETIMES 5 MINUTES PRAYER IS NOT ENOUGH

Matthew 26:42-44 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy. And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
There are times that 5 minutes prayer is just woefully inadequate to tackle the real issues of life. Jesus spent about 3 hours praying about just one prayer point. When you spend 3 hours praying about one prayer point, you will know that prayer is more than mumbling some few words.
Jesus was wrestling with going to the cross and He wanted to be in the will of God for His life. He prayed until He completely yielded to the will of God by the time He was done praying, He was strengthened enough to face the cross.
You have to learn how to tarry long in prayer. I love what Bishop Dag Heward Mills always says: I have always considered short prayers as insignificant; and this has helped me to pray for longer periods. I couldn’t agree more.
Some issues of life requires that you tarry long in prayer. Thus if you are that type of person who doesn’t pray for long hours, you can be limited in certain areas of your life.
Develop the habit of praying for long hours. You can do it. It is not difficult. You can begin by making a prayer list of names of people in your family, school, or church. By the time you are done praying 5 minutes for 12 persons each, you would have prayed for 1 hour. It is that simple. Cultivate that ability to pray for long hours. It will help you a great deal in life.
