2 Chronicles 10:6-8 And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people? And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever. But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.
If you are going to succeed in life, it is going to be by the wisdom of God. If you lack or forsake wisdom, you will suffer greatly in life; it is not a pronouncement of a curse but that’s the truth. Unfortunately, so many of God’s folks lack wisdom for living hence their sufferings and troubles.
From our opening scripture, the story is told of a young king name Rehoboam, the son of Solomon. After he was enthroned as king, all Israel came to him to plead with him to relief them of the burden his father placed on them.
He had a meeting with the old men who stood before his father and they counselled him to lighten the people’s burden, but he rejected their wisdom; because this men had stood before the wisest man in the world and have drunk from his wisdom hence they knew what to do. Rehoboam took counsel with the young men that had grown up with him and went after their ungodly counsel.
Upon this, all Israel rebelled against king Rehoboam except Judah and Benjamin. This was where Israel as a nation was divided; ten tribes went with Jeroboam while two tribes remained with king Rehoboam. Rehoboam lost the kingdom simply because he forsook wisdom. They that forsake wisdom will always suffer.
