No one can truly serve God the way it ought to be done by his own ability. It is useless to even try it; and it is more delusional to believe that one in his flesh can glorify God. It takes the anointing to serve God rightly and be effective in your walk as a believer in Christ Jesus. In ministry, it is more serious than ever before; to ignore the anointing in your calling as a minister of God is the most dangerous thing you can ever do.

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

2 Samuel 1:14 And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the Lord's anointed?

I love the man David. David was a man who was taught by the Spirit of God. He so knew the anointing more than any king or Judge in Israel. When news came to David about the death of Saul and Jonathan, he lamented greatly. He knew this thing ought not to be so. The man who came with the news was killed by David.

This man happened to be on Mount Gilboa. While the battle raged, an archer shot an arrow and hit king Saul. Upon this Saul fell on his sword; the Philistines were marching towards him and he knew they will kill him. He asked the Amalekite to kill him; and he did. So in essence it was Saul who requested to be killed. Yet when this fellow came to David with the news, David killed him.

UNDERSTANDING THE ANOINTING

2 Samuel 1:21 Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.

Understanding the anointing is crucial to our walk with God. If we are going to get the best out of the anointing of God, it is important we understand what the anointing is and its function. Unfortunately, many of God’s folks lack the understanding of the anointing and what it can do for the believer in Christ. King David knew something about the anointing that many of God’s people don’t have a clue of.

The moment David killed Goliath, his troubles began. King Saul persecuted David for nearly 13 years, seeking to destroy him in order to prevent him from becoming the next king of Israel. David wandered from one nation to another; one time he will be in the woods, another time in the mountains or the stronghold. In all of these instances, on two different occasions, David had the opportunity to kill Saul but he refused.

THE ANOINTING

Psalms 89:20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:

The anointing is not a feeling even though it produces one. The anointing is not goosebumps. The anointing is simply the power of God. This is the power that Jesus promised His disciples that they will receive after He is glorified and ascends to heaven. In Bible days, priests, kings and prophets were anointed into their respective offices. It was what set them apart to function effectively in their ministry.

If there was one man in scripture who knew and understood the anointing, it was David the son of Jesse. David so knew the anointing that he knew how to relate to it hence the tremendous results he got. When God rejected king Saul as a result of his disobedience, God sent the Prophet Samuel to Jesse’s house to anoint a king for Himself. Samuel got there and by the Spirit, anointed David in the midst of his brethren.
