Psalms 130:3-4 If thou, Lord , shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.
God is a God of mercy and grace; that’s His true nature. Of course God is a God of justice. But God truly delights in mercy and grace. If you want to touch the heart of God, go after His love, mercy and grace. The word “mark” in our opening scripture is from the Hebrew word “shamar” which means to keep in memory, to observe narrowly etc.
The NIV translation puts it in a better way: If you, Lord, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you (Psalm 130:3-4). This scripture destroys all forms of self righteousness; if you think God accepts you because you have lived holy, you need to take good look at the scripture again. What the scripture is saying is that, if God were to mark your sins, you cannot survive His judgment. Stop trusting in your good works and put your trust in His grace and mercy.
