FURNACE OF AFFLICTION

Isaiah 48:10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
People can use the term “furnace of affliction” to mean several things but prophetically, it has something much weightier than what most people think. The word “furnace” has to do with a place of fire where gold and silver can be refined. It is also an enclosure of fire where bread can be baked.
In this context the term applies much more to a furnace for refinement and purification. In this instance the dirt on the gold or silver is removed by fire and the pure metal is extracted.
Thus the term “furnace of affliction” primarily speaks of the cross. The cross was God’s furnace of affliction where God’s fiery and indignation was unleashed on Jesus’ body till it consumed Him. On the cross, all of God’s judgment and condemnation against your sins and lawlessness fell on the body of Jesus.
And by that furnace of affliction, God purged and refined all men. When man sinned, the gold in him became tainted and mixed with dirt – man became an object of ridicule and mockery but the day Jesus died on the cross and was burnt in the furnace of affliction, by that fire, He has purified all men. And those who believe in Jesus are purified and justified from all sins.
Jesus death is your death. His condemnation is your condemnation. If God is not going to condemn Jesus again, neither is He going to condemn you His beloved who have received the forgiveness that He has given in Christ Jesus. God’s wrath is no longer upon you. You have been refined in the furnace of affliction – and you are pure in God’s sight. In this rejoice and glory. Hallelujah!
