THE DECEPTION OF THE SOUTH WIND

There are people who say things like, listen to the experts. I beg to differ – it is not always safe to listen to the experts. If you are someone who is a keen follower of experts, you are headed for trouble. This world is a complex world, and you need a knowledge than the expertise of men to stay ahead – a knowledge beyond the sense realm.

Our opening scripture is a story about Paul’s voyage to Rome. Before they set off for the journey, this is what Paul said: ….Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives (Acts 27:10). Apostle Paul by the Spirit perceived that the voyage would be dangerous but the centurion decided to listen to the owner of the ship (the expert).

Spiritual perception or knowledge is higher than human knowledge. When the south wind blew softly, they said to themselves, Paul, you are not the expert, keep quiet – you see, the expert was right. It was just a matter of time when their knowledge was put to the test. In a process of time, these men ran into a heavy storm that threatened their lives – they lost everything except their lives for the sake of Paul. This is the end of those who ignore spiritual instructions and follow the imaginations of men.

The deception of the south wind is that sometimes when people ignore divine counsel and go their own way, initially, everything seems to be fine, till their knowledge is tested by the fires and storms of life. Every knowledge that is sponsoring your life will be tested. What knowledge is sponsoring your decisions and choices in life? Just be sure it is not the south wind.

One time Joshua and his men did not ask counsel of God and paid attention to the mouldy bread of the Gibeonites, thinking they were from a far distant country. Later on, they found out that they were their neighbors – they were deceived. Make it your habit to always seek divine counsel from the Spirit before embarking on anything that you do in life. You may seek counsel from experts as the case may be; but always check it out from the Spirit for final confirmation.
