WHY THE BELIEVER IN CHRIST SHOULD LIVE HOLY

2 Timothy 2:19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

Most believers in Christ knows this scripture very well; and some even use it to beat people. There is a reason why God tells us not to indulge in the wrong way of life. And if you are ignorant of God’s word, you will struggle to live holy and righteous.

In the New Testament, right living is a fruit and not the root; while righteousness, which is a gift from God, is the root. One key to living holy is “knowing who you are in Christ”. If you don’t know who you are in Christ, you will struggle to live right. There is a striking phrase in our opening scripture:

And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

YOU HAVE POWER, LOVE AND SOUND MIND

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. KJV

Fear is slavery and it is for slaves; while power, love and sound mind is freedom which is reserved for sons in the kingdom of God. Our theme scripture is awesome. It tells us what has not been given and what has been given to us in Christ. When you get to know what you have, then you can take advantage of it.

One beautiful thing about the New Testament is that, we are not trying to get something; all things have been given to us freely in Christ Jesus. Our responsibility is to search out what has been given to us and take advantage of them.

As a child of God in Christ, there is no need to fear. Fear is not of God. Fear is torment and he that fears is not made perfect in love.

John 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

True Christianity is from “bein g” to “works”; it is not “works” to “being”. Let me explain: the believer do not have to live righteously to become righteous. We were made righteous the day we became born again, having confessed the Lordship of Jesus. Thus we do righteous acts because we are righteous. This is very vital.

Many preaching in the church is all backward. Many preach that if you live right you will be made righteous and holy. I am sorry to tell you that, that is a big lie from the pit of hell; and it cannot happen. You do not live righteous to become righteous; you do not become holy by living holy. Holy people do holy things.

1 Peter 1:10‭-‬11 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.‬

If you listen to what some folks are preaching around the world, you will think that the Christian life is a life of suffering. Of course I believe in suffering for Christ, where one suffer because of his faith in Jesus; I am simply saying that, I believe in persecution as a result of your faith in Christ.

But suffering poverty, sickness, lack, depression and the likes is unnecessary in this era of glory. From our opening scripture, we are told about the sufferings of Christ and the glory that should follow. Now that the suffering of Christ been fulfilled, it is glory time, nothing more, nothing less.
