Answering Nagging Questions 2 - Elijah's Fire that devoured the soldiers, was it from God or the devil?
Revelation 11:3-6
[3]And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
[4]These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
[5]And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
[6]These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
These two witnesses are Moses and Elijah. The New Testament explains the Old Testament. Here Apostle John is explaining to us the reason for the fire that devoured the soldiers: And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies. The intention of these soldiers was to hurt the man of God thus he defended himself by calling down fire.
Why will someone now say that that fire was from the devil? If you try to hurt a prophet of God and you got hurt, how is that the work of the devil? I believe satan wants to destroy God's prophets. Now, why will he stop someone who wants to do that?
Why will people believe that God cannot protect His own? Who will sit down and watch his wife or daughter being destroyed and do nothing? And we think God will do less?
If it will take God to kill to protect His own he will certainly do it. Remember He buried Pharaoh and His entire army in the Red sea. God is not a vampire on rampage seeking who to kill. But He will gladly defend His own no matter the cost.
Isaiah 43:4 [4]Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.
Now about Jesus rebuking His disciples who wanted to call down fire on the Samaritans like Elijah did: These are two separate scenarios: in the case of Elijah it was self defense; while in the case of the disciples the Samaritans were not attacking the disciples - they only did not receive the ministry of Jesus thus it was needless to call down fire. Jesus wasn't rebuking Elijah.
Let us keep in mind that Jesus is not a weak person. The fact that He did not use the power of God to defend Himself or execute judgment does mean He does not possess it.
Look at what happened in the garden during the arrest:
John 18:4-6
[4]Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
[5]They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
[6]As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
Jesus knocked down the soldiers and the men who came to arrest Him.
Matthew 26:52-53
[52]Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
[53]Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
Look at what He told Pilate at the trial:
John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
People forget this same Jesus is not only a lamb but a lion. In His first coming, He came as a lamb for the sins of world. But in His second coming, He will come like a lion.
Revelation 19:11-16
[11]And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
[12]His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
[13]And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
[14]And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
[15]And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
[16]And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
What we need today in the body of Christ is anointed balanced teaching. There are just too many extreme teachings making the rounds.
