Luke 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
There is a difference between “power” and “authority”. Unfortunately, in the King James Version of the Bible, the word “authority” is often translated “power”. Thus if you don’t study it in the Greek rendering you will not get the right interpretation of scriptures.
For instance, Matthew 28:18 says, And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth (KJV). The word “power” here is from the Greek word “exousia” which means “authority” or “delegated power”.
Acts 1:8 says, But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. The word “power” in this scripture is from the Greek word “dunamis” which means dynamic power or inherent power or ability.
