Psalm 45:7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. KJV

May you receive the oil of gladness in the name of Jesus Christ. If there is a spirit of heaviness or depression, there is also the spirit of joy and gladness – the oil of gladness. This implies that joy is also a spirit.

Our theme scripture is a Messianic Psalm that spoke about Jesus being anointed with the oil of gladness. Even Jesus needed the oil of gladness to be successful on the Earth. There are places in scripture that we are told that Jesus rejoiced.

Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;……..KJV

Depression is a feeling of despair, unhappiness, a sense of hopelessness and helplessness, and a feeling of discouragement. It is an emotional trauma that leaves it victims in a state of sadness; it cripples a man and drains the life out of you.

And this is caused by a spirit. There are people you meet who are sad and perplexed for no reason. If you ask them why they are depressed they can’t even tell you why. I know there are disturbing situations that can lead to depression; but there are cases where people are depressed and suffer emotional instability without any cause or reason. This is caused by a spirit – scripture calls it “the spirit of heaviness”.

Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint; Deuteronomy 8:15 KJV

The more I relate to a lot of folks in the church, the more I know that most of them don’t know their inheritance in Christ Jesus – probably they were not taught properly; many are ignorant of the many advantages they have in Christ. One of the many inheritance we have in Christ is “the divine hedge”. This is the protective power of God over His people.

From our opening scripture, we have a vivid picture of Israel’s journey from Egypt to the promise Land through the wilderness. We are told that there were fiery serpents and scorpions in the great and terrible wilderness. And yet, God preserved His people.

THE ONE WITH AN ISSUE IS OUTSIDE THE CAMP

Numbers 5:1 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Command the children of Israel, that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one that hath an issue, and whosoever is defiled by the dead:

In today’s lesson, we will be dealing with the one that has a running issue like the woman with the issue of blood. Just imagine you are in your menstrual cycle and you are told to stay outside the camp. You will be away from family and loved ones; what it implies is that you are cut off from fellowship and the best of God. One having an issue is a picture of self righteousness; those who trust in their good deeds in order to have right standing with God. And their place is living outside God’s best. To live in God’s best, you have to walk by faith in Jesus’ sure work.
