REST AND ESCAPE TROUBLE

Isaiah 8:6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son; 7 Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks.

The subject of rest in Christ is so vital to the body of Christ. The opening scripture teaches us a vital key on how to escape trouble. It talks about two kinds of waters: the water of Shiloah that go softly and the strong and many waters. The former represents the peace and rest of God while the latter represents the enemy’s vices and wickedness. God said to Israel, because they refused the waters of Shiloah, the strong waters of the Assyrians will come upon them – this is trouble.

In the New Testament, because of Jesus, God will not punish us for our sins. But it is sure that if we do not walk in His rest for us, we will surely expose ourselves to trouble. When we walk in the ways of God and follow the guidance of the Spirit we are walking in the rest of God; and this will ensure we escape the ills of this world. This is the reason why the devil tries to get the believer out of line. The moment you get out of line, then he can effect the curse in your life. As long as you are walking in the rest of God, the devil cannot effect the curse.

BELIEVING ESTABLISHES THE BELIEVER

Isaiah 7:9 And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

The truths of God are simple but profound and powerful. Believing establishes the believer. Praise God! I love the term believer which in the New Testament is often used to describe the new creation in Christ Jesus. We were born to believe. Hallelujah! Right now lift up your hand toward heaven and declare, “I was born to believe the word”. Doubting is not your nature as a believer. And when you believe what God has said concerning your life, you are established in that revelation.

2 Chronicles 20:20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

A WORD TO THE RIGHTEOUS

Isaiah 3:10 Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

In Christ Jesus, we’ve been made the righteousness of God; not by our works but by faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. In our opening scripture, the Holy Spirit points to us an important message the righteous man needs to hear all the time. And that message is, “it is well”. The word “well” is from the Hebrew word “towb” which means beautiful, best, better, bountiful, cheerful, favor, graciously, prosperity, and wealth. It implies nothing wanting – being fully supplied on every side – emotionally, spiritually and physically and financially. This is the message the righteous in Christ needs to hear.

The word says to tell the righteous that it is well. By the Spirit I say to you again: It is well with you. If you want to go into deeper study, in our opening scripture the words: it, shall, be, with, and him are all in italics in the King James Version of the Bible. It means they were not in the original Hebrew language – it implies that the translators put it there. So when you remove them, Isaiah 3:10a reads thus: Say ye to the righteous, that well. This is deep. So we are to proclaim over God’s people wellness, favor, bounty, prosperity. This is a little bit different from just saying it is well with you. And if that is the message we need to hear, then, that should be our confession. But there are religious folks who have something against the message of prosperity. If you don’t believe in the prosperity message, you won’t prosper. Simple!

THE PRINCIPLE OF ACTIVE OPERATION

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Few years ago, I taught on this subject. And I believe it will be prudent to share it with you because it is one of the secrets of success in the kingdom of God. I believe if you are ignorant of this principle, you will not see a greater level of success in your life as a believer in Christ Jesus. The principle of Active Operation is based on the working of a dynamo. It states that for there to be power available for work, there has to be an activation, stirring or agitation.

The word power in our opening scripture is from the Greek word “dunamis” which means inherent power or dynamic ability that works like a dynamo. There are two major things I want to bring to your attention; firstly, the power in this context does not come from outside hence it is inherent. Secondly, this power only works when it is stirred or activated. Without activation it will not produce power for work. This is the kind of power Jesus promised those who receive the Holy Spirit will possess.

THE WORD IS GOD-BREATHED

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

The word is God-breathed. It implies that God’s word came out of His breath. Hence when you take in the word, you are actually taking in a dose of God’s breath. And that breath was breathed into Adam and he became a living a soul (Genesis 2:7). In our opening scripture, the phrase “given by the inspiration of God” is from one Greek word “theopneustos” which means “divinely breathed in” – it is breath from Almighty God.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
