JESUS: OUR BURNT OVER PLACE

John 3:16‭-‬17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Jesus: Our Burnt Over Place. What a beautiful description of the finished work of Christ. One of the offerings in the book of Leviticus is the “burnt offering”. In this offering, after the animal is killed, the whole animal is burnt to ashes as an offering to God. And in this instance, divine acceptance is received on behalf of the offerer.

Several years ago, I read an article in “Our Daily Bread Devotional” with this title, “Jesus: Our Burnt Over Place”, that greatly inspired me. In that article was a story told about certain guys who were caught up in a fire outbreak. And where they were at the time, the fire was coming toward their direction to destroy them. As they were caught up in this dilemma, they went ahead and set a fire on an area of vegetation in the direction in which the fire was coming.

Proverbs 21.20 The wise man saves for the future, but the foolish man spends whatever he gets. TLB

Famines and rainy days are part of the seasons of life. But if you are wise, you will smile at them. The wise man always live with the future in mind. Do you have a reserve where you can fall on in times of great need? Or are you just spending everything that comes into your hand?

Genesis 41:33‭-‬34 Therefore, Pharaoh should find an intelligent and wise man and put him in charge of the entire land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh should appoint supervisors over the land and let them collect one-fifth of all the crops during the seven good years. NLT‬

INSTRUCTION BRINGS WISDOM

Proverbs 9:9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

Wisdom is the key for a successful life. If you lack wisdom, you are set to journey on the hard road of life. Every high flyer in the kingdom functions with the wisdom of God. Wisdom brings wealth; wisdom builds; wisdom directs and instructs and counsels. Wisdom is the master key to a sweatless life of triumph in the kingdom. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom.

Wisdom can be imparted; and one of the ways to impart wisdom is through instruction. Instruction or teaching is a powerful tool to impart the wisdom of God. The word of God is the wisdom of God. When you are fully instructed in the word, you will be wise.

BE CAREFUL OF WHAT YOU HEAR

Mark 4:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

There is a difference between “what you hear” and “how you hear”. What you hear has to do with the content of the material being listened to. While how you hear, has to do with the modus operandi of listening to a material. Both of these are important for proper hearing and getting the full blessing from a material. In this instance, we will be dealing with “what you hear”.

Andrew Wommack told a story of how several years ago he ran into a preacher who went about preaching a message titled “satan: God’s messenger boy”. In that teaching, this particular preacher preached that God uses satan to run errands for Him. In this kind of teaching, he meant that God put sickness on people to bring glory to Himself; and it is the devil He uses to run those errands. You will be shocked to know folks still believe this piece of dirt.

Psalms 141:3 Set a watch, O Lord , before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

In our opening scripture, the Psalmist prayed one of the most important prayers in scripture. Unfortunately, many of us don’t pray or probably have never prayed this prayer in our entire life. I believe it is one prayer you have to pray on a daily basis. I love this prayer: Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. What the Psalmist is saying is, Lord, help me watch over my mouth like a guard will protect a house or a property. Your life is a treasured property; protect it by saying the right things consistent with redemptive provisions in Christ Jesus.

In the natural, if you have a property and you don’t set a guard over it, the chances are, there will be a lot of trespassing on that property. Setting a guard over that property wards off all intruders and unscrupulous folks from causing damage to your property. In the same manner, if you don’t learn to bridle your tongue well, you have set your life lose to all forms of satanic invasions.
